DBO Danish Open Freestyle Day 3 Recap week 42 2025

Intro

With no official competition scheduled, Day 3 of the Danish Open Freestyle was all about learning, fun, and community.

The day began with an open technical session, where riders gathered to talk sail tuning and board setup. Arne Jörn and Mathias Vingaard led a live demonstration of their personal rigging and equipment preferences — including downhaul, outhaul, footstrap size, mast base placement. The discussion sparked good questions and shared insights across levels.

Side Events with a Twist

Later in the afternoon, the freestyle and wave communities came together for a few side events. First up: tug-of-war on boards. Three large boards were tied together for each team, who then tried to pull the opposing team across a line. The action quickly turned chaotic (in the best way), with spectacular crashes, close calls and big smiles all around.

Next was a tied-board relay race around a buoy. Riders stayed on the same triple-board setups, competing in teams of three. The light wind and inward current only made it more fun — with unpredictable twists and turns throughout the course.

Prize Draw and Community Vibes

Following the side events, all participants assembled onshore for the prize ceremony. Appreciation is extended to Surfcenter Lynæs for their generous sponsorship of the freestyle prizes, as well as to all riders, spectators, and volunteers whose contributions were essential to the success of the freestyle and wave program.

Evening Celebration

The day — and event — ended with a shared dinner under the “bring your own pizza” concept at NASA Surfklub. What followed was a relaxed and fun evening at the local club, with riders, tourists, locals and volunteers celebrating together. The stoke was real.

Thank You

A huge thank you to all the sailors, organizers, judges, volunteers, and partners who made this event possible. Featuring innovative formats, new participants, and dynamic engagement both on and off the water, the Danish Open Freestyle demonstrated why northern Denmark remains one of the most amazing freestyle venues. We look forward to the developments in the coming years and see returning as well as new faces.
